Glasgow's garage rock four-piece Sweaty Palms follow up 'Queer Fatwa' from last September, with latest single 'Captain Of The Rugby Team' - their fiery salvo at misogyny and lad culture - which is out now via Nice Swan Records.


Who are you?

My name is Robbie Houston, formally known as Boab. I play guitar and shout in tune, or out of tune with Sweaty Palms. We have Sir Ronan Fay on lead guitar and backing vocals, Shaun 'Monty' Montgomery on bass, Tam on drums and backing vocals, and Bum Rash on keys.

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today? 

I am a hostile house grouse from Glasgow, working grave yard shifts at the fruit market for a sex pest who hates my guts. I enjoy long baths and Bukowsi. I have no idea how I got here.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

Our infuences range from The Birthday Party to the Bee Gees. We all have a different range of tastes, but everyone's very open minded when it comes to music as long as it isn't contrived or trying too hard. The Pogues seems to be a middle ground. As far as style goes, there is no method in the madness.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

Both come very naturally to us (without sounding smarmy). The songs flow when we're in a room together, we don't over analyse structures or anything. If it's there, it's there. The end product of our songs are usually the way they come out when we first play them, but someone always forgets to press record..

Tell us a little about your new single.

It's funny hearing it as 'new single' because it was one of the first songs we wrote, but it's developed over the years and it's finally out there into the world. The title - 'Captain Of The Rugby Team' - is kind of self explanatory for the song. Funny how it's even more relevant two years on...

We have big plans. An album release and a few more tours. The plates are heating. Dinner will be served.

We're finally on Spotify. We also have a Bandcamp with a double B-side single available on 7". There's about 6 left. Lots more to come, we're just getting started.
