Released last Friday (December 15), Auckland, New Zealand-based singer and producer October released her latest single 'All She Does Is Stare' - and what a cracker it is.
Working with Welsh producer David Wrench (Frank Ocean, The xx), Emma Logan - aka October - follows 'Cherry Cola' with her pumped up, slam dunk industrial pop sound. Filled with the electric combination of sultry vocals, racing guitars and synths, and full on layered distortion, the sharp, gritty lines are reminiscent of Grimes.
“'All She Does Is Stare' was written with all my female heroes in mind. An ode to the ever defiant, ever resilient girl. It's about those times when the best response is no response, and all you can fathom is to stare, not needing to be accountable to anyone," she says.
"I found samples of clanging metal and smashing glass and used layers upon layers of distortion, feeding unconventional sounds through guitar pedals and seeing what would happen."
October heads to SXSW in Texas next March.
