New Sounds #122 December 6 2016

OVER THE TREES - HELLO OSLO
The Norwegian shoe/folk-gaze five-piece follow previous single 'Garbage Crown' with this rather delightful new track. Coming from their debut album - out February 3 2017 - this song about moving from a small town, to Oslo, flows along at a gentle pace before a sax break heralds a pick up in tempo for its last half. Star rating: ★★★★☆

THE CARESS - ANIMAL PASSION
Catchy, sub-three minute new single from the alt-pop rock three-piece from New Cross, South East London, made up of three brothers - Tom, Ben and Sam Easton - who follow their impressive summer debut, 'Why Don't We Take A Walk By The Sea?' Star rating: ★★☆☆☆

PASTEL DREAM - FALL
Lead track of shimmery synths and smooth harmonies from the self-titled debut EP released last month on limited edition cassette tape by Spirit Goth Records from the San Francisco area lo-fi dreampop five-piece fronted by Caitlyn Whitfield.  Star rating: ★★★☆☆

KYOTI - CHIMERA
London-based art-pop trio, follow debut ‘Cave In’ in May, and jazz electro fusion ‘Curved Edge, Straight Line’, with this latest in minimalist electro-synth textures, vocal harmonies and clattering drum beats. Lead singer Ed Burgon explains it is lyrically about moving past the loss of a loved one, and that strange internal conflict you feel at times of great change.’ He was inspired to write the track after reading about the death of Carole Lombard, Clark Gable’s third wife. Star rating: ★★★☆☆

THE VELVETEINS - DON'T YAH FEEL BETTER
The Canadian trio from Edmonton, Alberta, pop out a hook rich piece of guitar-pop that serves as an intro to the band's debut LP 'Slow Wave', due early 2017 via Fierce Panda (Canada). Star rating: ★★☆☆☆
