December 2 2016 - Hot Top Ten

TRACK OF THE WEEK
SELF TALK - UNTITLED
Already a Little Indie Track Of The Day, this punchy popper from the Melbourne five-piece comes back as we can't stop 'pursing our lips' and humming the damn thing all week!
Taken from their June debut EP, 'Seeing What I Want To See', the scrappy, delightful track even has a beaut of a lyric vid to help you with the words. Endearing and infectious, we bloody love it.

ALEX L'ESTRANGE - NOTHING TO HIDE
A close runner-up for Track Of The Week. The Brisbane songwriter and producer does what the Australians seem to do so well on this new track from his upcoming debut EP 'Auchenflower', worked on with Matt Redlich of Holy Holy, and released on December 16. The vocals are engaging and the melodies wonderfully traced, giving an expansive feel. A real grower.

OSAKA - TEASE
Latest from the Melbourne trio's recent debut EP 'Manoeuvres', following 'Weights'. The three 20-year-olds - Edvard Hakansson, Gilbert Hulme and Jack McKenzie - add polished pop hooks to Hakansson's seductive vocals.

SKINNY BLONDE - GO TO SLEEP
Originally the solo project of New York-based Michael Turzilli, now a four-man, garage power-pop outfit. This standalone three-minute-plus single of fuzzed out guitars and vocals follows the release last month of their 'Precious Cargo' EP.

MUSHY CALLAHAN - END OF MY ROPE
New single from the Toronto-based, alt-rock, soul-vocalled four-brother band is about, explains lead singer Noah McCann, "holding on when you've been beaten down; and holding onto blind faith when you've got nothing left."

THE SLEEPYHEADS - NOTHING'S REALLY CHANGED
New from the scuzzy Tasmanian foursome, who started as the solo project of vocalist/guitarist Pat Broxton in 2013, before developing into a four-piece last year. Combining a touch of punk with a smattering of Courtney Barnett, it's an upbeat, catchy groove

MIDNIGHT MYSTERY CLUB - CALLING ME
Californian electro-synthpop solo project of multi-instrumentalist David Paul Newell (one-half of UK house duo Full Intention) and producer Michael Gray. Ethereal synths, hypnotic bass grooves, punchy drums and a dancefloor ambience.

CHENTI - RUNNING THROUGH WALLS
Lead single from the self-titled debut EP released last month by the Horsham, Sussex-based indietronica quartet. An impressive start for the newcii, combining atmospheric electronics with indie hooks, it trips through a cavalcade of soaring harmonies and shimmering pop riffs.

OCEAN GROVE - THESE BOYS LIGHT FIRES
They don't just light fires either - these Melbourne metal punks will blaze your ears too. Listen with caution - and volume on low - as they pummel through the unrelenting, raucous cacophony that was recorded and produced by the band in their 19-year-old drummer /producer, Sam Bassal's bedroom.

TOM PRIOR - DON'T WORRY
Hot on the heels of the release of his new EP ‘The Sunday Scene' last month, this lead single from the Enfield, north London indie hip-hop singer-songwriter is a touching ode to his young daughter. Contemporary indie with a message.
