New Sounds #98 September 21 2016

LIVING - RISEN
Okay, so October's on its way and the hot and steamy September is drawing to an end, but with the sun-drenched, dreamy vibes of this Brazilian (Lucas de Almeida, vocals) / Norwegian (Nora Tårnesvik, bass, Sturla Kverneng, drums) three-piece, it can be forever a Caribbean summer in your ears. Out now via Brilliance Records. Star rating: ★★

MY INVISIBLE FRIEND - ENDLESS
When we featured this Italian shoegaze/dreampop outfit from Parma here in July with the 28-minute 'Sleepless', we knew this was a band who liked to use length to explore their sound. Now they follow in a similar - if shorter, at a mere nine minutes - vein with this reverb-washed extravaganza of dreamy guitars and ghost-like vocals, taken from their self-titled EP, released on September 19 via Fuzz Club Records. Star rating: ★★

KEIR- PROBABLY
The debut single - out on October 7 via Crosstown Recordings - from 22-year-old Bristol-via-Bath singer-songwriter who fuses R&B with indie guitars and soaring, stirring bluesy vocals that deliver intense lyrics. Star rating: ★★

LINYING - PARIS 12
Starting to develop something of a global buzz, the 20-year-old Singaporean singer-songwriter has now dropped the title track from her upcoming EP out on September 30, following the exquisite 'Sticky Leaves' and 'Alpine'. A voice so sweet and pure it can make sugar melt. Star rating: ★★

ORCHID COLLECTIVE - COURAGE
The title track from the Irish quartet's upcoming EP, released on October 21. Alt-folk-Americana-influenced indie rock with vocal harmonies and layers of sublime reverbed guitars, behind vocalist David O'Shea’s distinctive tones. Catch live this Friday (September 23) at Roisin Dubh, Galway, and at The Cornstore, Draperstown, Derry the following night. Star rating: ★★
