BORN JOY DEAD - SOURDOUGH
Out last Friday, the Brisbane quartet's new single from their forthcoming second EP, taking a departure from previous outings style with vocalist Ben Dalton delivering some bonzer dreampop vocal vibes. Star rating: ★★★




AMERICAN WRESTLERS - GIVE UP
The St. Louis, Missouri outfit - the once-anonymous project of St. Louis-by-way-of Scottish songwriter Gary McClure - air new single from 'Goodbye Terrible Youth' (out November 4 on Fat Possum). Light jangly guitars move at an infectiously rhythmic fuzzy pop pace. Star rating: ★★★




NO SIDE EFFECTS - FINAL FORECAST
Newbury, Berks-based duo Tom Haynes and Ade Wallington share this six-minute track of ambient electronics taken from their forthcoming album 'Reinventing Failure'. Released last week, it mixes electronic synth and keys into a dark pop ambience. Star rating: ★★★




COCOA FUTURES - THE BLUE
First cut from the forthcoming ‘Blue’ EP, produced by Marc Withasee (Micachu & the Shapes) and out December 2, from Scottish London-based vocalist Greg (vocals/bass), with Dave (drums), Zoe (keys) and Jack (guitar). This single released on Lost In The Manor Records on September 16 is composed around a foot-tapping looped ice cream-van siren and big bass riff, anchored by a metronomic mid-tempo beat. Star rating: ★★★




MERCURY GIRLS - HOLLY
Part of a Slumberland Records compilation EP 'Continental Drift' (out August 26), Philly indie five-piece share their contribution of jangly guitars, rampant drums and lush shoegaze vocals. Star rating: ★★★
