August 19 2016 - Hot Top Ten

TRACK OF THE WEEK
COQUIN MIGALE - PT. 2
Sounding big on this new single, coming from their debut album 'Munro' out today through Fierce Panda, the Grindie rockers of Newcastle throw in the ravaging guitars and soaring vocals befitting of a band now on the rise. Catch live at Birthdays, London on August 23 before they head off to play Reading & Leeds Festival.

TOM PRETTYS - SHELF LIFE
Our Track Of The Day this week from the Melbourne quartet. A touch of the Morrisseys about singer Matt Steyn's vocals, as they lead the sub-four-minute, post-punk track with pop undertones through a wash of lo-fi guitar, carried on crashing cymbals and an infectious quality that wraps it up nicely.

CHANGING HOMES - CELESTIA 1
Taken from their new third EP 'Sharing Spaces' released last week, this Bangladeshi outfit from Dhaka (aided on this track with some stunning guitar work from Asir Arif), surprise with an unexpected psych rock-shoegaze-experimental sound.

LUXURY DEATH - RADIATOR FACE
Unveiled this week (on PNKSLM), Ben Thompson's - formerly one half of Nai Harvest -  new project with partner Meg Williams, sees the Manchester duo open on some great guitar and bass before introducing dual vocals in a lo-fi rock ambience. Catch live on August 28 at London's Lock Tavern for Through Being Cool Bank Holiday.

TEETH & TONGUE - TURN, TURN, TURN
The Melbourne quartet's - fronted by New Zealand-born Jess Cornelius - follow-up to 'Dianne'. Infectiously dark and beaty electro pop helmed by Cornelius' hypnotic smooth vocals, taken from their forthcoming album, 'Give Up On Your Health', out on September 2 via Dot Dash/ Remote Control in Aus/NZ and Captured Tracks in the USA.

BEDS IN PARKS - I'M A WARHOL
The London duo aired this track a few months ago, but has just this month got its release on Tim Burgess’ O Genesis label as a split 7" with Cabbage. (The History of Apple Pie’s) Joanna Curwood and (Hatcham Social’s) Finn Kidd, revel in lo-fi garage rock, and here it's driven by psych layered vocals over a rampant beat and squalky guitar.

BEAUTY SLEEP - LIVING RIGHT
Released last week from Belfast's lo-fi dreampop trio. Following debut ‘The Dark’, this new single melds blissful vocals, washed out harmonies and guitars around fuzzy synth.

JACK R REILLY - TITLE DICTATES BEHAVIOUR
So beautiful it hurts. Sydney's answer to Elliot Smith conjures up a simple, yearning work of subtle piano and guitar and gentle vocals, coming off his forthcoming EP 'Video Tapes' due out later this year.

THE DEATH NOTES - EYE TO SEE
The Nottingham post-punks release their first new material in two years on September 23 via the 'White' EP (first of three colour themed EPs). Vocalist Mark Saxton lends a dark presence to a insistent synth line and layered textures of guitar, drums and vocals.

CLOWNS - DESTROY THE EVIDENCE
Blistering 7" digital release this week on Poison City Records from the Melbourne punk 'n' roll quartet who go hell-for-leather on a thumping bassline and dominated by Stevie Williams’ raucous vocal.
