New Sounds #78 July 27 2016

TWIN PINES - YOUNG HEARTS
The Glasgwegian three-piece release this as their debut single on August 12 via New York label The Enigma Corporation. Already featured on E4's Made In Chelsea, the track is a mantra to break the chains of a toxic relationship that takes post-punk influences and infuses with upbeat indie-pop melodies with the likeability factor. Star rating: 4/5

FIANCÉ - H.A.G.S
We first heard the Newark, Delaware five-piece back in 2014 when 'Era' was our Track Of The Day. Here they deliver over 3:44 minutes, more of their mellow, shoegaze-esque, 80s-styled synthpop. Star rating: 3.5/5

REUNIONUNION - DISEPERATE
Brooklyn/St. Louis-based collaboration between Patick Savage and Adam Watkins. Its title amalgamates the words desperate, separate and disparate; another word to describe the combination of post-rock/psych and dreampop might be different. Star rating: 4/5

BERRIES - SIREN
Introduced here in March, the new single from the London trio, the lead track from their debut EP, 'Those Funny Things', digitally released on August 19. Rousingly rocky mix of bluesy riffs, with Holly Carter's vocal overlaying some twiddly guitar work on the kind of track that sticks around in your head. Catch live in London at Islington's o2 Academy 2 on August 13. Star rating: 4/5

WOODES - THE THAW
Elle Graham, the Melbourne songstress, follows her debut single 'Daggers and Knives' from earlier this year, with a smoky vocal presence over lush workings of guitar and bass and infectiously melodic beats, on this new electronica track written and produced with fellow Oz music maker, LANKS. Darkly atmospheric, it is an appetising taster of her debut EP due in September. Star rating: 3.5/5
