July 29 2016 - Hot Top Ten

TRACK OF THE WEEK
HOW TO DRESS WELL - LOST YOUTH/LOST YOU
As soon as we heard this this week, we knew none would better it. Less cut from the upcoming album 'Care' by Tom Krell, the bedroom R&B track is drenched in typical HTDW lushness. A collaboration with producer Jack Antonoff (Sia, Grimes, Taylor Swift), it's out on September 23 via Domino.

CONDITIONER - UNDER WATER
One of two debut tracks (w/'That's Not Me') released last week by the Los Angeles-based duo: Aaron Kirkbride (guitar, bass, keys), Riley McCluskey (guitar, vocals). Sultry electronic drum beats, meandering keyboards and a soaring, emotive falsetto vocal.

THE ONLY OCEAN - CUL-DE-SAC
Santa Barbara, California quartet meld reverbed psych-pop with post-punk on this first single off their latest EP ‘TOO’. "Everything about you is a waste of time".

J.W. PARIS - RAPTURE
Digitally released this month (with a 7" out in October), the razor blade gargling vocals of Danny Collins hit the mark on this bluesy, rock 'n' roll banger with a hint of 90s grunge single, produced with Paul Tipler (Placebo, The Horrors). Think we may be hearing more of this Luton, Beds three-piece.

STEFAN ALEXANDER - SKELETON
Soul-vibed electronica from New York City's multi-instrumentalist, blending swooning vocals, rousing drums, and melodic pop-infused electronics.

BLOOMS - DISTANCE
Dark RnB stylings on this latest single, produced by P*nut, from Louise Cunnane. Hazily atmospheric with breathy vocals, she describes it as a song that "toys with the idea of going back to the person you have walked away from. Flirting with temptation even though you know it's bad for you."

BOYS - NICE GUYS
Released August 17, the London dreampop quartet's first single taken from their debut EP out later this summer. Recorded and produced with Yuck’s Max Bloom, the track hones the band’s dreamy lo-fi sound with silky harmonies set against a crunching drum beat. Catch live on August 6 at Trinity Bar, London.

LUNAR QUIET - AMBIEN
Second release from the new Brighton outfit who we introduced here back in May.
Describing it as "dark, heavy,
brooding and spacey", vocalist Tom Knights explains the lyrics "are about a period in my life where I was prescribed Ambien - a sleeping pill. It's meant to capture the feelings of
desperation, anxiety and paralysis that I felt during these times."

ADOY - LAIKA
Near six minutes of spacey electronic pop-psych rock from Seoul, South Korea duo - Juhwan (vocals, guitar) and Zee (synthesizer) - with their Tame Impala/Fleet Foxes inspired debut digital single, released this week. Written about Laika, the first dog that was launched into space and within hours of lift-off, it concerns its feelings and perhaps the selfishness of men. Curiously epic tune that at times in the first minutes sounds like it's going to break into something traditionally Greek.

SACRED SHRINES - COLLISIONS
Lead single from the psych/garage Brisbane-based five-piece's debut LP, 'Come Down From The Mountain', which was released last week.
60s retro fuzzy guitars, heaps of reverb and some quite stupendous guitar riffs and one of those voices via frontman Dorian that fits the genre perfectly.
