Introducing :: Lunar Quiet

Words: Linn Branson

Playing their first live show just over a week ago, you may not even have heard of new Brighton quartet Lunar Quiet. But don't discount this outfit as being at all green around the gills novices; take a listen to this debut track 'Endless Migraine' to see why they could be the latest south coast band destined to hit tastemaker radars.

What began as a bedroom vocals and guitar project between Tom Knights and Ben Thompson last October, had, by early new year 2016, become a full band.

Recorded at Small Pond Rehearsal space in Brighton, and mixed/mastered by Rocky O'Reilly, 'Endless Migraine' - the first track written by Tom and Ben - is a highly impressive debut. It's easy to detect where inspiration has stemmed from: taking the post-punk tautness of Eagulls, the melodic immersion of DIIV, and My Bloody Valentine's reverbed distortion, it is a full-on three-minute-plus journey of scorching fretwork that dips and dives on a rollercoaster of fiercely constructed soundwaves.

The second ever live gig by Lunar Quiet comes on May 20 at The Globe in Brighton with an inspired line-up that includes The Parrots, Ulrika Spacek, Gang, Morning Smoke, Beachtape and Tusks as part of The Alternative Escape. Seeing as this is a free, no wristband required programme, it could well provide one of the festival's biggest draws. See here for more information.

Lunar Quiet are: Tom Knights - vocals/guitar, Ben Thompson - lead guitar, Lena Pilshofer - bass/vocals, George Miles - drums.
