Introducing :: Camp Cope

Words: Ellie Ward

Three girl outfit Camp Cope are one of a seeming flux of girl bands coming out of Australia over the last 12 months or so.

This Melbourne outfit who formed last year have been steadily growing their fanbase through their airy melodies and intense lyrical depictions on the local scene, which, with the release of their self-titled debut album in April (through Poison City Records), looks set to escalate.

Fronted by Footscray songwriter Georgia Maq, there's a combination of Waxahatchee - whom they’re supporting in Melbourne this month - and in Maq’s intense and gravelly vocal delivery and real life lyrics, a touch of Courtney Barnett. Hear on single cut ‘Lost: Season One’, below, how it works.

Camp Cope are: Georgia Maq - vocals/guitar, Kelly Hellmrich - bass, Sarah Thompson - drums

Camp Cope are on tour in Australia next month with Jeff Rosenstock. Before that they open for Waxahatchee on February 18 at Howler, Melbourne.
