June 26 2015 - Hot Top Ten

SAMPLE ANSWER - GOOD BOY
20-year-old Dubliner Maurice O’Connor says he's trying to be a "good boy" on this second single from his debut EP of the same name out on July 24. With a wicked soul groove going on and a voice like his, we're not sure we entirely believe him.

HOUSEWIVES - NEW DANCE
95 seconds in length - and with scant vocals for just 52 of them - the south London outfit follow up their self-titled cassette release last year with this 300 copy limited edition 7" of tribal brutalist post punk, available now via Blank Editions.

TRUE NOIR - CREATION
Guitar-drenched dark pop first track from new quartet out of Brighton, fronted by Megan Rees (with Robin Clark, bass, Jan Parkins, guitar, and Dan Cook on drums/percussion). Sounding like what Wolf Alice might be doing if this was still the 90s.

LOVE NOR MONEY - SHAKE ME
Out July 6 (via Lost In The Manor Records), new single from London’s female tech-pop trio - sisters Bess (lead vocals) and Jayna Cavendish (backing vocals, drums and dance), and Anna Tosh (guitar) - post their Glastonbury appearance this weekend. Catch live in London on July 22 at Camden's Black Heart.

SECONDS - BREAK HOLE
Sounding like a new B52s, Glasgow-based garage pop four-piece provide one half of split 12-track LP released August 1 on Softy Power Records, with London band Joya. Glasgow launch gig at The Old Hairdressers on August 1, and London launch at New River Studios on the 5th.

THE RICE CRACKERS - FISH
From the debut EP 'Kolohe Kid', released last week, by the Boston Asian quartet who mix grunge, punk with reggae, wiry guitars and often quirky lyrics. Vocalist Olivia West delivers the soaring Mitski-like biz. This track has one of the catchiest choruses of the month.

BALLERINA BLACK - GRAVITY
The LA alt-rock outfit flirt with broodingly dark atmospherics once more on this lead track from their new EP, 'Whails' released on June 29.

CALIFORNIA CARPOOL - LUCID DREAMIN'
Brighton band Morning Smoke's drummer Isaac Ide goes solo for this euphoric dreampop debut single of floaty guitar riffs and lo-fi vocals, released via Living End Projects.

THE CARRAWAYS - ORANGE JUICE DREAMS
North London slacker rock four-piece - all reaching 18 this year - with the summery, laid-back title track from their debut EP released on June 5. Catch at Camden's Dublin Castle on July 1 where they are one of the finalists hoping to win slot at this year's Green Man Rising festival.

HOLY ESQUE - FADE
More from Glasgow, this time the steering hooks and sonic intensity of lead track from the four-piece's 'Submission' EP, out July 17, that marries post-punk with a pop essence.
