February 20 2015 - Hot Top Ten

CROWS - PRAY
Released March 30, the London band with a sound and live act as gripping as you could wish, not least due to the presence of frontman James Cox. Jarring, jagged; decidedly menacing; ultimately terrifyingly brilliant.

BOYS - NICE GUYS
We said when we first heard this West London trio early last year (see here) that they needed a name change. We stand by that. This new single - out this week - is as nice as it's title, however

PLEASURE HOUSE - SUNRISE
First single from the debut album (released June) from new jangly trop-pop four-piece from Birmingham. "Sunrise is for the happy people, the stay up laters and the deep 'n' meaningfuls." Check.

SHIELDS - ENEMY
The Newcastle five-piece offer
ing this as a free download (and impressing Huw Stephens enough to give a spin on his Radio 1 show) in advance of their debut album (on which it doesn't appear), due later this year.

SEAGOAT - COMFORT GIRL
First single from debut self-titled album (available February 3), started as a long-distance bedroom project between songwriter Colby Miller and producer Neal Harris eventually solidified into a long-term collaboration. Together, the duo crafts intricately composed and arranged electronic pop with an experimental edge.

THE BRITANYS - WANT TO BE
New Stooges-esque ringer from the NYC garage noise trio (Lucas Long, Steele Kratt, Gabe Schulman) who have been cooking up a storm since we featured them here last year. Breaker band, due in no small way to Long's command of vocal duties.

GO WOLF - RUNNING
Catchy, melodic 80s synth jangle-pop vibes on this title track and single release from the Belfast quartet's EP, out March 10 via Ooh La La Records.

WILD FEVERS - I WANNA MOTORCYCLE, TO CHAIN SMOKE AND RIDE INTO THE SUN
A one man (James Fremantle - ex of The Lost Souls Club) London-based band with the lead cut of upcoming EP of lo-fi, fuzzy, trippy, folky, rock(ish) Americana.

NOVELLA - LAND GONE
A wall of shoegaze/psych on the debut single from the London quintet taken off their new LP, 'Land' (out on May 12 on Sinderlyn Records), recorded with Jonas Verijnen (Moon Duo, Ballet School) and Joshua Third (the Horrors).

LOST DAWN - COUNT ON ME
Second single release (out February 23) from the self-titled debut album (out on April 13), from Falmouth three-piece mixing raw garage-rock with voodoo psychedelia, blues, 60s-70s rock influences and a sparkle of heavy glam-rock swagger. Catch live on February 28 at Shacklewell Arms, London.
