December 5 2014 - Hot Top Ten

ETERNAL DEATH - CRY
The Swedish duo release this new single this week in advance of their self-titled debut full-length arriving in February 24 on Labrador Records. Elin Berlin and Johan AngergÄrd first emerged last year with a 4-minute video of total silence and darkness; thankfully this track has not just words, but is not quite as mournful as their name suggests.

GUARDS - NOTHING MORE
A long-awaited return of the New York-based trio - the first outing since last year's 'In Guards We Trust' - with this ably crafted soulful, melodic synth-pop single released this week.

NEW SWEARS - SLOPPY BLACKOUT
One of four tracks by the Ottawa four-piece garage punks on the split EP release with Deathcats out today (December 5) via Fuzzkill Records. You want a bit of woozy, fun DIY now and then, don't you.

MEMORY MAZE - DOLLAR EYES
London producer Gavin Ellis offers third teaser from his forthcoming album, released as a free mp3 download this week. His most overtly pop offering to date. Falsetto harmonies, shimmering guitars and trademark hazy synths.

GECKO - GET UP
New release (as of last week) from Camden trop-pop three-piece who bring a Beastie Boys feel with infectiously soulful, good feel vibes. Catch them at Mr Wolf's, Bristol on December 20 for a Xmas Party show.

DELETER - SECRET SEAS
Lead single from 'Zweite Komposition', the new EP from the Minneapolis band, released via Land Ski on December 19. With influences including Wire, The Fall, and The Psychedelic Furs, you can tell where the post-punk heart lies.

POPOBAWA - CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE
Catchy little blighter of a track that sounds like it's a singalong Christmas song, but isn't. From the new EP, 'Gardens Of The Alverstocracy', by the Hampshire outfit we first featured here earlier in the year.

TURTLE - LAVENDER
Lead track, a multi-layered melding of experimental electronica, from second EP ‘Colours’ out next spring by Glasgow-based producer Jon Cooper, the follow-up to his debut EP ‘Who Knows’, which saw him compared to the likes of Jon Hopkins, Thom Yorke and SOHN.

NEW ARCADES - WHEREVER YOU ARE
New single - out last week - from London electro-synthpop duo, Dean Canty and Adam Sullivan. Vibrant beats over 80s style synths, following on from EP 'Scenes' released earlier in year.

THE NATIONAL POOL - HOLD BACK (ft. DAJ)
Latest single from Baltimore artist The National Pool - aka Bradley White - out on December 9, is a three-and-a-half minute spacey chillwave track, with DAJ, a Brooklyn-based fusion/R&B vocalist.
